A rivalry between U.S. Cavalry captains results in Kern Shafter (Ray Milland) being demoted and disgraced for striking Edward Garnett (Hugh Marlowe) with a saber. Shafter claims he was defending the honor of his fiancée.

Shafter drifts for a while until he reaches Bismarck in the Dakota Territory, where he heads to Fort Abraham Lincoln and enlists in the 7th Cavalry. He is pleased until he learns that his nemesis Garnett is at Fort Lincoln as well and is the commander of a different company. Shafter and Garnett despise each other and the antagonism ripens in a competition for the affections of beautiful Josephine Russell (Helena Carter).

A scouting mission, in support of General Custer's command, leads both Shafter and Garnett into the most dangerous circumstance of their lives. Who will return?

WHEN FLAMING ARROWS WERE THE SCOURGE OF THE DAKOTA TERRITORY!

“A good, lusty battle sequence—with the two enemies taking time out for one of their own—closes the film.” The New York Times
